Keynote Speaker

Kelsey Vitense

Kelsey is a Mathematical Statistician at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) based in Duluth. She majored in Mathematics at Grinnell College, has a master’s degree in Quantitative Ecology from the University of Washington, and a PhD in Natural Resources Science from the University of Minnesota. Kelsey uses math and statistics to help solve a broad range of problems in the environmental sciences, from predicting algae blooms in lakes to identifying chemicals that may be harmful to humans and wildlife. The most fun part of her job is listening to researchers explain the science behind their work and figuring out how to capture those concepts in quantitative models. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, crocheting gifts for friends and family, and attending live concerts.
