Life On Campus

Z: Welcome to the San Jose Job Corps! Let’s take a look at how it’s like to live and learn on campus.

Z: First stop, the Admissions Department and Non-Res Lounge. Here, students can hang out and get snacks in between classes. Feel free to visit with your admissions counselor while you’re here!

Z: Our cafeteria serves our students 3 meals a day. And if students are still hungry, they can go back in line for more servings. There’s plenty of room inside and outside to eat.

Z: We offer trades classes to our students both on and off campus. Right now, students are in classes here or with our community partners. We provide transportation to all of our students to our community partners’ campuses, so students just need to focus on getting to our campus.

Z: Here, you can see our community garden maintained by staff and students… and our health and wellness center where we provide basic medical, dental, and mental health care to our students.

Z: Let’s take a look at a dorm room! We are currently in the male dormitory. Students are given key card access to their rooms. There are 4 people to a dorm. Each person gets a bed and a locking wardrobe. We provide professionally laundered bed sheets and comforters, and a combination lock for the wardrobe. Here, we teach out students independent living skills so that they’re prepared to live independently after graduation. In our male dorms, a hall will share a communal bathroom. In the female dorms, there is a bathroom attached to each room.

Z: Here’s a peek into a female dorm. The male and female dorms are separate buildings. Students are only allowed to enter their designated dorm buildings and dorm rooms. Students may bring their own TV as long as it is 32” or under.

Z: Each student gets a chrome book on loan. However, we also have computer spaces like this for students to use desktop computers.

Z: Other communal spaces, include sitting rooms and TV rooms, are for students to relax and hang out. Students are expected to clean both communal spaces and their dorm rooms.

Z: There are lots of green spaces outdoors to lounge, with benches and picnic tables all around campus. Here’s a lovely view of the quad just outside the male dorms.

Z: Students can play a game of basketball on our outdoor basketball court, or play a game of soccer in our beautiful green fields.

Z: We have a ton of indoor recreational spaces as well! This is the entrance to our gymnasium, where we host events and games for students, staff, and community partners.

Z: In here, we can see indoor basketball courts with lots of space for fun activities.

Z: We also have a weight-lifting room with well maintained equipment. We train our students to use the equipment properly so that they can exercise safely and effectively. There is always a staff member present to keep our students safe.

Z: A popular place to go after classes is the recreation center! We have billiard tables, foosball, table tennis, and even dance dance revolution.

Z: There are TVs set up for students to play video games solo or in a group. Bring your own console or borrow it from us! We also have a movie area to watch your favorites together with friends.
