Research HRV

The Research HRV app allows you to measure the heart rate variability of athletes of various specializations to determine their functional status. The application is designed for mobile devices running iPadOS.

The application does not provide recommendations or medical diagnoses. The results obtained can be used exclusively for educational and sports activities.

To use the app, you can use a heart rate monitor with the ability to record R-R intervals and Bluetooth support (for example, Polar H10).

The app starts by connecting the heart rate monitor and the app. To do this, tap the "Connect" button. The name of the heart rate monitor at the top of the screen and the words "Disconnect" in yellow indicate that a connection has been established.

The application allows you to record in 3, 5, and 10 minutes (you can set it in the "Settings" section). At the end of the recording, you will hear a beep and the recording will stop. When the recording is finished, you will be prompted to enter information about the performer and save the measurement result.

To access the saved measurements, click on the "Data" button.  On this screen, you can select one, several or all measurements and get a general report on the measurements.

The report on heart rate variability measurements will be presented in a tabular form in CSV format, which can be opened in Numbers, Excel, saved to the device, or sent to the mail.

You can also perform a "Measurement search" sort. You can use keywords to select the measurements you need for analysis. If the "Choose" button (yellow) is active, you can select a measurement.

To get information about an individual measurement, click on the corresponding date, and you will be taken to the next screen.

On this screen, you can see a graphical representation of the heart rate dynamics and the result of the correction of possible artifacts ("R-R Artifact Correction"). The settings for R-R interval correction (median filter) can be set in the "Setting" section.

You can also select any measurement range and get a report on this segment of heart rate variability. If you click on the "Array (R-R)" button, you can access the array of R-R intervals and save it in CSV format.

Clicking on the "Analysis" button allows you to see a more detailed analysis of heart rate variability.

To analyse the heart rate variability, a graphical display of the dynamics (histogram, scatterplot) and the main parameters will be presented, namely: Baevsky's stress index, Square root of Baevsky's stress index, Vegetative Balance Index, Mean HR (bpm), Mean R-R (ms), V(X) (dispersion, ms), SDNN (ms), RMSSD (ms), pNN50 (%), CV (coefficient of variation, %), R (range of variation, ms), Ratio of maximum to minimum, Moda (ms), AMo (%), SD1 (ms), SD2 (ms), SD2/SD1.

The "Setting" section provides a description of the operation and the necessary settings. The median filter is used to track artifacts when measuring heart rate variability (by default, the artifact correction value is set to 150 ms, the median window size is 5 values).

In this section, you can also save a JSON backup of your measurements to any location ("Save Backup"), add measurements from another device ("Add Backup"), replace already saved measurements with new ones ("Replace Backup"), or delete all data ("Delete All Data").

Based on the results of the metrological expertise, it was determined that the mobile application "Research HRV" is reliable and easy to use. The accuracy of HRV measurements provided by the "Research HRV" application has been proven. The specialists involved in the development of the application received a certificate of copyright registration for the work No. 125199, dated March 29, 2024, from the State Organization "Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovations."
