Main research ideas

Shared mobility systems present an interesting fleet management challenge, closely linked with managing demand. Their inherent flexibility make them different from other traditionally studied transportation sectors and innovative ideas - such as the integration of pricing decisions with fleet management - can be applied to obtain significant impact in terms of sustainability - both economic and environmental.

This project will be organized around four main research ideas:

  1. Integrating pricing and revenue management with fleet management has a high impact in these business models.
  2. Significant synergies can be obtained from studying car rental and car sharing systems within the same project.
  3. Uncertainty affecting demand and other realistic requirements must be considered to get real-world managerial insights. However, they increase the complexity of the problem.
  4. The decomposition of mathematical models associated with metaheuristics allows tackling this complexity.
