“Why do you charge “so much” for your adoption fees? I thought you all were non-profit!”
Sit Happens Rescue is 100 percent non-profit and donation based. Our adoption fees typically range between $250 - $400 and are based on age and medical need. We have put together a basic list of what our adoption fee covers for every animal we take in. Keep in mind these are just the basics and do not include the emergency situations we often take on as well including but not limited to amputations, broken jaws, severe eye damage/removals, Positive Heartworm treatment etc.
What's Included in Basic Vetting (average cost per dog):
- Spay/Neuter: $75 - $125 (depending on availability and facility we use)
- Rabies Vaccine: $25
- DAPP Vaccine: $17 each (puppies require 2 additional boosters)
- Bordetella Vaccine: $17
- Leptospirosis Vaccine: $17
- Initial Dewormer: $25
- Booster Dewormer: $10
- Initial Flea Prevention - $22
- Heartworm Test: $25
- Microchip: $20
- Collar/Harness, Leash, Identification tag: $15
- Puppy/Dog Food - $50 (average for duration dog is foster)
- Proheart, Simparica Trio, or Trifexis (6-month heartworm prevention): $100+
Additional Care We Cover:
- Heartworm Treatment: $225 - $425+ (based on weight of the dog)
- Emergency Surgeries: $800+
- CT Scan: $1500-$3000+
- X-Rays: $500+
- Dental Treatment: $400+
- Cryptorchid Surgery (retained testicles - common): $20
- Umbilical Hernia Repair (common in puppies): $30-$75
- Bloodwork (as needed): $150+
- Kennel Cough Medications: $20-$30
- Skin Medication: $30+
- Ear Medication: $30+
- Fecal Testing: $15
- Nail Trim: $10
- Dematting: $25 - $75 (depending on the severity)
Your adoption fee helps, but it rarely covers all expenses needed to care for and foster the dogs we save. We do this because we love animals and our goal is to see them loved, safe and cared for.
