Serangoon Road Project
This site is part of a project to get students to examine the concept of Change and Continuity in Singapore. We are a multi racial and multi ethnic society. With globalisation, we are also becoming a multi-national society with people from different countries choosing to come to Singapore to work and settle down.
As we learn about the cultures of our friends from different parts of the world, we want to remember our heritage so that we can be proud of where we came from as well as be able to share our history with those who are new to Singapore.
Historically, when Raffles founded modern Singapore, he came up with the first town plan (now referred to as the Raffles Town Plan). In this plan, each ethnic group was designated a different area or part of Singapore town. The reason for this was so that there would not be any disagreement between the different groups.

Singapore Road Today
Our project begins with an examination of Serangoon Road, an area which was by Raffles allocated to the early Indian settlers.
Based on the example of Serangoon Road, we will be working in class to research and come up with similar pages for Chinatown and Geylang Serai as well.
