The theme for this fall's concert will be Christmas music. We'll be performing music from a variety cultural and heritage backgrounds, and that will include both secular and sacred Christmas music.
This is a choir made up of kids from ages 7-12, or about second through eighth grade. We have rehearsal once a week on Tuesdays at the Sul Ross choir room from 5:00-5:50. We learn songs both in harmony and unison. We perform music in a variety of styles, including sacred, pop, Disney, folk, world music, and others. Our goal is to help kids have fun singing while growing as musicians, and to produce excellent music that will bless the community.
This is a choir made up of kids from ages 8 and up. It functions essentially as a group voice lesson, so there is a fee of $75 for the semester. Please don't let that stop you from joining as we have scholarships available for those who need them!
Let us know if you'd like to schedule a vocal interview/audition to join this choir. It's not something to stress about, but it does help us know if this choir is a good fit for your student!
We have rehearsal once a week on Tuesdays at the Sul Ross choir room from 4:00-4:50. We focus on learning a few songs very well, and studying the music.
ATTENDANCE
We have a limited number of rehearsals, so it’s important that everyone be there. That being said, life happens and everyone needs to miss sometimes. Your student can miss up to 3 rehearsals. After that, we’ll need to have a conversation about what progress they are making and whether they will be ready to perform or not, considering the practices they have missed.
ON-TIME ARRIVAL
Our rehearsals are every Tuesday afternoon from 4:00-4:50 for Solfege Choir, and 5:00-5:50 for Children's Chorus, starting September 9th. Please make an effort to get your kids there on time. We start by warming up, and it is very important that kids’ voices be warmed up in order to sing safely and comfortably. Also, coming in late creates a disturbance for others.
PICK-UP
Please come up to the choir room to pick up your children. If your children are walking to the parking lot on their own after choir, you will need to message us to let us know they have permission to walk down on their own. Note the ending time is now ten minutes to the hour.
REMIND
For Big Bend Children's Chorus members, join Remind by texting the message @singbbcc to the number 81010. We're working towards not having to re-sign up each semester. With that being said, if you aren't on the Remind, please get the phone number of someone who is. We are not responsible for missed messages sent over Remind.
DUES - $25 DONATION
Big Bend Community Chorale, Big Bend Children's Chorus and Vivace Youth Singers are all community ensembles. Some of their expenses include paying musicians, renting performance locations and especially buying sheet music, which can add up quickly. (To give an idea, it takes about $30-$50 to equip a choir with one piece of music...) With this in mind, we are asking for a donation of $25 per family to help our choir continue to function well. However, this is not a reason for anyone to reconsider being in choir. We will accept everyone regardless of payment!
CONCERT ATTIRE
Concert attire for both BBcc and Solfege Choir is white tops, black bottoms. Ideally, this means black shoes and belt. Please don't wear perfumes or colognes as some people are allergic, but do look and smell fresh and clean.
RULES
These are the rules for Big Bend Children’s Chorus and Solfege Choir.
No devices out during choir
Participate in everything
Be respectful of others
Take care of Sul Ross property
No talking when someone else is talking
We do not anticipate having a problem. However, if a child cannot keep these rules and it is making choir less enjoyable for other children, we’ll ask you to attend with them. If this doesn’t solve the problem we will have to ask your child not to participate for the remainder of the semester.
