Topic:
Astrophysics of relativistic systems is expected to be a prominent topic in the Indian A&A community in the upcoming years. The workshop will provide an exposure to young students on the techniques of numerical simulations of fluids in general and their application to relativistic astrophysics in particular. The target audience would be senior MSc students and young PhDs. The workshop will involve specialised theoretical lectures on the numerical methods of finite volume techniques and basic introduction to relativistic fluid dynamics, followed by more advanced demonstration of general relativistic fluid flows.
Who can Apply?
Final year MSc, PhD students and Postdoctoral fellows. Candidates actively engaged in research in relativistic astrophysics and fluid dynamics will be given prference.
Prerequisites:
Working knowlegde of python, C (or C++). A working laptop with python and related tools such as numpy and matplotlib pre-installed. Working knowledge of the basics of fluid dynamics. Candidates with previous experience in numerical techniques will be preferred.
Basic Introduction to the theory of relativistic fluid dynamics, numerical schemes of finite volume simulations
Some basic applications of relativistic fluid dynamics. Introduction to GRHD.
GRHD theory and applications.

BY TRAIN: Malda is on the main line between Kollkata and New Jalpaiguri, served by numerous trains such as the Vande Bharat Express, Shatabdi Express, Gour Express, Kanchenjungha Express, Teesta Torsa Express, and Darjeeling Mail, to name a few.
BY ROAD: Malda is 347 Km away from Kolkata towards the north and 256 Km from Siliguri towards the south. The National Highway–34 passes through the District. NBSTC buses, and many privately operated buses ply between Kolkata and Malda. The buses, leaving from the Shahid Minar and the Ultadanga bus terminuses take about eight hours to complete the journey.
The Department of Physics, Malda College was established in 1948 with the introduction of the course I.Sc.(Intermediate Science). In 1959 B.Sc. (Pass) was introduced. The honours course started in the year 1986 with only five students, out of which one student stood 1st Class Second in the B.Sc. Physics (Honours) Examination of University of North Bengal. The Department has been serving the people of Malda and the neighbouring districts and has maintained an excellent standard of education which is reflected by the list of its ex-students. Presently the Department has an intake capacity of 50 students, including the seats reserved as per government norms. The department has 5 well-equipped Honours laboratories and a general laboratory for the Pass course. The department has a collection of about 1200 books in its departmental Seminar Library.
The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to promote the nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics at Indian universities. IUCAA aims to be a centre of excellence within the university sector for teaching, research, and development in astronomy and astrophysics. IUCAA’s activities fall under two broad programmes: core academic programmes and visitor academic programmes. Core academic programmes include basic research, the PhD programme, advanced research workshops and schools, the giant metre-wave radio telescope and guest observer programmes. Visitor academic programmes include the visitor and associates programme, refresher courses for teachers and helping the nucleation and growth of astronomy and astrophysics at Indian universities.
