About the Festival

About the Silz Festival

The Festival itself takes place over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, and hence usually benefits from the best weather that the British Summer can offer, with most of the 350 attendees camping on-site, though local B&Bs and hotels are available for the more discerning of festival goers. The key details of the weekend are:

Hockey Format

8-a-side, Mixed, on grass! (Minimum of 3 ladies per team); Matches are divided into 2 sections - Tournament, which is a semi-competitive cup competition (though with semis and final played on astro), and Festival - where in the best traditions of festival hockey, results and points do not matter, and often, the rules of hockey are not necessarily particularly high on the agenda either!

11-a-side, Mixed on Astro (Minimum of 5 ladies per team) for the slightly more serious - but still not for anyone who is wanting to "warm up" for the season!

Weekend Schedule

Friday - arrival from 2pm, evening hosts the Arrival party which includes BBQ, some (limited) free drinks and general drinking games

Saturday - matches kick off no earlier than 10am, and evening entertainment is a disco

Sunday - matches including semi-finals and final on Sunday afternoon, with the evening seeing the send-off party, which is fancy dress themed, and includes a disco and awards presentation

Monday morning - everyone departs with slightly sore heads!
