Welcome to Silver Lining Academy,
After thirty two years as an elementary educator and working with over 1,000 students of various ages during my career, it seems as if all of my experience has brought me to this destination as a virtual tutor with students who are at that “tween” age. It’s my favorite age to teach because they yearn so much for independence and still need structured guidance to find their way.
When the world shut down in March 2020, in the public school sector, we all began again as a year one virtual teacher. For all of the 2020-2021 school year, I was given permission by Round Rock ISD to teach virtually from home so that I could assist my very elderly mom. I had no idea how much I would learn about teaching virtually in such a short period of time. Now I can look back and know that each challenge brought me to this place in time so that I can help your child grow academically and socially.
As a teacher, I am selling education with each lesson. That’s the most fun and challenging part. So, the name Silver Lining is perfect for what we will do together in our work because with each new challenge, the silver lining is the confidence it brings when your child conquers that thing that, at first, seemed so difficult.
My plan for each lesson is basic. While planning the lesson, I think like a kid. I consider what I would need to hear from a teacher in order to feel confident about learning something new, hear an age-appropriate explanation about how the lesson is important to my life, and find that the method in which we will go about learning the concept will be in a fun way; or, at least we can laugh about it being such a dry topic and how foundational learning is sometimes a part of real life.
I look forward to working with you and your child. Building a bridge between home and our virtual learning spot is key to your child’s success. I will continue to maintain the high expectations I have always had of my students and will remember that growing your child’s self esteem in the work is my primary goal.
Sincerely,
Gigi Schoener
