Commander Statement
Dear Alumni,
The past few months have been a privilege to say the least. The amount of work and dedication the members of the Beta Eta colony have put into the re-founding of this historic chapter is second to none. Since the candidates received their bids back in February, it has been non-stop brotherhood building activities, such as basketball on Friday afternoons and LEAD sessions where we learn about each other and our varying experiences and backgrounds. Brothers spending time together on weekends that never would have met if not for the spur of the moment decision to join this soon-to-be chartered fraternity. Members have stepped up to the plate in terms of leadership and have fulfilled their roles to the limit and then have gone above and beyond to make sure Sigma Nu is put back on the map as a top fraternity here at IU. Not only that, but there were even efforts made in order to not only grow the bonds between brothers, but to also better the community as a whole. We took to the streets of Bloomington and spread ourselves wide across campus picking up trash two weekends in a row and made sure that the campus we called home was clean and free of trash. On top of that, with only 56 members, we were able to raise enough money to buy nearly 900 pounds of canned goods for the local food drive and be one of the top donating organizations on campus. Although the academic year is coming to an end, we are not stopping our efforts to have one of the strongest comebacks in Sigma Nu history. We have a recruitment plan set in place that has our men all over the country holding recruitment events in order to grow our numbers as well as our impact. We hope to have nearly 85 great men who value our beliefs as much as we do once Fall recruitment has come to a close. We here at the Beta Eta colony at Indiana University thank all the alumni that have helped us so far, and hope to meet as many of you as possible so that we may share our ideals of Love, Honor, and Truth with as many of you as we can!
Fraternally,
Benjamin Retzner

Candidate Induction Ceremony
On Saturday, April 17th, the members of the Beta Eta colony were inducted as candidates of Sigma Nu at the Graduate Hotel in Bloomington. We are all very excited to finally officially be considered candidates after the ceremony was delayed due to the pandemic. A special thank you to E.G. White, Michael Regoli, Max Wurster, Jeorge Manley, and Drew Burton for helping out with the two ceremonies this day!
Local Community Service
On Sunday, April 18th and April 25th, members of the colony spent a few hours picking up trash from the streets of Bloomington. It felt very good to give back to the city of Bloomington, and our efforts were very much appreciated by the members of the community who saw us on these days. In addition, the members of our colony purchased and donated nearly 900 pounds of canned food to a local food drive, making our colony one of the top donating organizations on campus! A special shoutout to our Community Service Chairman, Milan Outarsingh, for putting together these events and giving all of the brothers an opportunity to give back to the local community.
Brotherhood Retreat/Golf Event
Unfortunately, due to difficulties with the pandemic and weather, we had to cancel our planned Brotherhood Retreat that was supposed to take place last semester. The plan is now to have this event at the beginning of the fall semester. We would still like to give a huge thank you to Beta Eta alumni, Aaron Mobley, who offered up his property for us to use for this retreat. In light of the cancellation of this event, we reserved multiple tee times for members of the colony to play golf at Cascades Golf Course on May 1st. Although we couldn't get every single colony member to attend this event, everybody had a great time playing golf on this day, and it was a great opportunity for us to get to know each other much better. We hope to have more Golf Events in the future where we include Beta Eta Alumni!

Fall 2021 Recruitment and Candidate Class
Through the hard work of our rush chairman, rush committee and all the rest of the brothers, we recruited some high quality men that will join us in our awaited rise on campus. After a very successful recruitment week, we have added 30 new members to the Beta Eta colony, bringing our total number to 87! We want to give a huge thank you to Steve Ratterman who worked with the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority house to give us a great place to hold rush events.
Statement from our Marshall:
We are extremely excited to welcome the Fall 2021 class. Candidates will educated through the new member process that focuses on grades, brotherhood and becoming the best young man they can be. New members will soon receive big brothers in the house, adding a one on one mentor to the resources they have to utilize. They will be inducted into the Beta Eta chapter at Beck Chapel on September 26th at 4:30pm. Please feel free to join us for this special event.
These young men will have plenty of milestones and accomplishments throughout and beyond their time at IU. My Marshall committee and I are excited to begin the process of shaping this new candidate class young men who put the values of love, honor, and truth at the forefront of their lives.

Special Olympics Philanthropy Event
We are hosting our first Philanthropy Event since coming back to Indiana University’s campus. We have decided to partner with Special Olympics, an organization that prides itself on helping those with mental and physcial abilities enjoy sports through competition training and event activities. Our goal this year is $30,000 because we want to make a strong impact this year, as it sets the tone for who we are and what you can expect out of the Beta Eta Chapter. Our event on October 9th 2021 will consist of tournaments involving other fraternities, sororities, and others on campus and the activities are Spikeball, Cornhole, and Kan-Jam. To learn more about our event and about our fundraiser please visit our CrowdChange website linked below and please consider supporting us and our cause by being at the event or donating!
