ACM SIGCHI is increasing its engagement with practitioners, researchers, and emerging students from Asian developing countries. Based on this motivation, it set up an Asian Development Committee in 2016 and has already organized many conferences in Asia and Asian developing countries. The prime goal is to publish quality research articles at top-notch HCI research venues such as CHI and CSCW conferences.
In anticipation of growing the community of HCI, we plan to organize a workshop in July 2022 in Bangladesh. This workshop will be a warm-up event for Summer Schools and Winter Schools in 2018-2020, held in India, China, and Bangladesh. The objective of this workshop is a bit different than the previous events. This workshop will co-locate with Ada Lovelace Women Celebration 2022, a celebration focusing on girls and women in Bangladesh that invites female students, industry experts, service holders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to learn and network. It's also incorporating seminars, conferences, policy dialogue, keynote speaking, workshops, etc., to grow females in Bangladesh. This celebration is organized by Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN)
This workshop considers more the emerging female researchers in Bangladesh and other South Asian Countries. Bangladesh is a developing country where women lag off regular literacy, which further works as a barrier to their growth. Women's participation is also less in Computing, where Ada Lovelace Celebration aims to gather women and girls and inspire them in Computing. As this workshop is co-located with Ada Lovelace, the event prioritizes female students in Computing more along with male students and those passionate about research. This event will benefit the female researchers as it will open opportunities for girls to connect with international researchers. It will finally introduce them to HCI research World.
North South University Human Computer Interaction Research Group is a gathering of marvelous HCI academic researchers, interactive students, and HCI experts from numerous industries in Bangladesh. They have taken the first initiatives to make Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter through HCI academic and industry researchers in Bangladesh.
HCI experts of Bangladesh have joined here to enrich the Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter community. The academic and industry researchers have successfully supported this community through foreign collaborations based on HCI.
