Privacy Policy for Sidebar AI
Last Updated: June 14, 2025
Your privacy and data security are of the utmost importance to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Sidebar AI handles information.
1. Guiding Principle: We Do Not Collect Your Content Our core privacy principle is simple: Sidebar AI is a client-side tool. We, the developers, do not collect, store, or have access to the content you analyze or the summaries you generate.
2. Information We DO NOT Collect or Store on Our Servers
Your API Keys
The content of webpages you analyze
The text you select or paste for analysis
The AI-generated summaries or results
Your personal Browse history
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Computer To function correctly, the Service uses chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.session to store certain data only in your browser. This data is not transmitted to us. This includes:
Your API Keys: Your keys are stored in chrome.storage.local so you don't have to enter them every time. They are only used to make direct requests from your browser to the AI provider you select.
Your Settings: Your preferences, such as default model, theme, saved prompts, and favorite links, are stored locally.
Session Summaries: To improve your experience, summaries for your open tabs may be temporarily stored in chrome.storage.session. This data is automatically deleted when you close your browser.
4. Information Sent to Third-Party AI Services When you initiate an analysis (e.g., click "Run"), the following occurs:
The relevant content (e.g., text from a webpage, your pasted text) is sent directly from your browser to the API of the third-party AI service you have configured (e.g., Google, OpenAI, Anthropic).
This transmission uses your API key for authentication with that service.
Your use of these third-party AI services is subject to their respective privacy policies and terms of service. We urge you to review them.
5. Security We have taken care to build the extension with security in mind. Storing your API key in chrome.storage.local is the standard, secure method for browser extensions, as this storage is sandboxed and not accessible by other websites. However, you are responsible for the security of your own computer and browser environment.
6. Children's Privacy The Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from them.
7. Changes to This Policy We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes.
8. Contact Us If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us via the "Feedback or Feature Request" link within the extension.
