What should I expect on my first visit?
An evidence-based orthopedic evaluation of the body region being treated. This includes a subjective history, objective measurements, neurological exam, and special tests all coupled with a dry needling treatment. Anticipate some homework including exercises and activity modifications to help manage your pain.
What should I wear?
Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing to access the body part being treated. Sports bras would be appropriate if your neck and shoulder region will be treated.
Does dry needling hurt?
Most people can feel the insertion of the needle and are typically sore for about 2-3 days. A localized twitch response, or quick muscle contraction, may occur with insertion of the needle. A referral of pain is very possible if treating acute trigger points.
Will dry needling take my pain away?
Unfortunately, there is no guarantee it will completely take your pain away, but it does help facilitate healing by loosening tight muscles and improving circulation to the injured area.

How many sessions will I need?
It's up to you! Many of my patients only require a treatment or two and can manage with the homework provided. Others may have a chronic issue that they are trying to relieve and might benefit from a few more visits or a more structured program. My goal is to help get you better as quickly as possible!
What other services do you offer?
I offer cupping, muscle scraping/tool assisted soft tissue massage, education, activity modification, and light exercises. If you need 'formal' physical therapy including visits 2-3x/week for your condition, this would not be the best option for you.
I'm terrified of needles, should I have dry needling done?
No.
I'm pregnant, should I have dry needling done?
Dry needling is not recommended if you are pregnant.
What is the most common adverse reaction following dry needling?
Post needling soreness, bruising, and bleeding are the most common.
Why don't you take insurance?
I focus on personalized, one on one care without the limitations insurance puts on treatment. This allows for better outcomes and more flexibility.
Where are you located?
Side Street PT is located in the Lake Carolina community. I have a home office, with a separate entrance, utilized strictly for my business.

Is dry needling the same thing as acupuncture?
Although they share similarities, including the needle, their philosophies differ.
Acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and has the ability to treat various diseases. This technique believes in moving energy, or Qi, within the body to help with healing.
Dry needling is based on Western Medicine and primarily treats the musculoskeletal system to help improve range of motion, circulation, and pain.
How many needles will be inserted during a session?
This all depends on the problem, but typically multiple needles are inserted during the treatment session and often times attached to electrical stimulation.
Are my sessions one on one?
Absolutely!
