Shyniferous started as a gaming handle — a way to stay connected with friends during the isolation of COVID. What began as a small circle of players slowly became something deeper: a village.
We started saying it often, "It takes a Village."
We checked in on each other, leaned on each other, listened, laughed, (maybe, sometimes, we even cried). It was a mental health circle on the DL.
Pairing my professional leadership and ability to research well, I brought information to the Village for the benefit of all. I produced podcasts on mental health topics like the 5 Stages of Burnout, Using Your 5 Senses to Support Wellness, and reviewed books like "The Happiness Advantage".
At one point, a viewer, and now dear friend, invited me to produce a 15-minute painting tutorial as part of a Canadian-based, Public Safety and Forensics Professionals group for a larger mental health initiative. The day was spent listening to harrowing tales of grief and regret but also comraderie, arm in arm, a group of professionals encouraging each other to reach out, get help, be proactive about managing time spent nurturing and healing both mind and hearts.
Today, Shyniferous is simply this: a home for the things I care about — cats, color, creativity, and the good we can do for each other in small, consistent ways.
