This course offers an introduction to health economics, a field that applies microeconomic principles to the study of health and health care. Given the size of the U.S. health sector and the central role of health policy in public discourse, the course explores key topics such as the markets for health and health care, health insurance, physician services, and public health. Students analyze how economic incentives shape health outcomes and policy decisions. By the end of the course, students are expected to understand and critically evaluate the structure of healthcare markets and the effectiveness of health policy interventions.
