Our awarding winning Theatrical Arts program is an educational theatre community within the Performing Arts Department at Scranton High School. The focus of our program is on the fundamental process over product, however, the process mimics that of a professional theatre company. We have a supportive, challenging, and comprehensive program in acting, musical, and technical theatre.
The program consists of both classes that students can take as electives during the school day, and the extra-curricular productions that we put on in our PAC each year. Students do not have to sign up for classes to do the musicals, and vice versa.
PRODUCTIONS
We produce two stage productions per year. The fall production is generally a drama or comedy performed by Speech and Drama III/IV students. The spring production is a musical cast through open auditions. In addition to main stage productions, we also stage the annual talent show and perform individual works in the annual Performing Arts Honor Society Showcase.
SCRANTON HS KNIGHT PLAYERS
The Knight Players serves as the drama club at Scranton HS. Students who enjoy theater are encouraged to join. It is a great way to meet new people with similar interests. A field trip to NYC is scheduled annually in May.
TECHNICAL THEATRE
Speech & Drama III/IV students have the opportunity to design costumes, makeup, sets, lights, and sound for productions through this hands-on theatre course. Theatre students crew the fall, Christmas, and spring productions.
MENTORSHIP
Since most college theatre programs require an audition or portfolio for admission, our staff is eager to assist with coaching and mentorship for students who intend to major in theatre in college. Our program is well built to give professional experience to our students.
