India’s Dairy Revolution: A Journey Through Cooperative Strength & Innovation
India stands as the largest producer of milk in the world, and at the heart of this success lies a well-structured network of dairy cooperative societies (DCS) and advanced processing units. This documentary explores the intricate journey of milk—from local dairy farmers to large-scale processing and packaging facilities, featuring two of India’s leading dairy cooperatives: AMUL in Gujarat and MANMUL in Karnataka.
Through on-site visits and expert insights, we delve into the role of technology, cold chain infrastructure, and cooperative governance in ensuring fair pricing, quality assurance, and farmer empowerment.
This study was funded and guided by the Department of Economic Analysis and Research (DEAR), NABARD, with the aim of strengthening dairy cooperatives across India and ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and prosperity for millions of dairy farmers.
