Initially the solution was to get eight shower cubicles installed into the Carriglea building. Four showers in the mens bathroom and four showers in the females bathroom with lockers and benches. We organised a plumbing company to come into the college and give us a quote on how much a project like this would cost. After inspecting the Carriglea building they were happy to go ahead with the project but sadly this plan was then blocked by the estates and facilities department due to fire and safety regulations. We are now looking at modular shower units as the best option for getting showers installed into the college as soon as possible. Our next step is to have a meeting with the new President of IADT (who signed our petition) about getting showers installed.
As some of you may know, our original plan was not to install showers, but in-fact, try and establish a gym within IADT. After researching and analyzing, we soon learned that this plan was was too large for a couple of students to undertake. In recent years, IADT rented a small space just opposite the college situated in the housing estate for the pool society primarily to play pool, have meetings and interact with each other. Unfortunately as years went on this was shutdown. In that same estate, their is a gym called 'Underground Fitness Dublin' which offers basic gym use, group sessions and personal training (equipped with showers). I think if IADT were to do something similar they did with the pool society, giving us an opportunity to be able to work out and join these classes at a discounted rate, if the college were to negotiate a deal with this gym and offer students a reasonable price for basic gym use or group sessions etc.

One idea we have considered is the possibility of installing an out door shower in the walled garden of IADT. The quiet surroundings of the garden mixed with the lush plants and trees could make a cool area for a shower. The creation of a small changing facility and enclosed shower unit would be perfect for out door showing, especially in the warm months of April and May.
All the members of the group are currently studying entrepreneurship and using our skills daily to learn and grow as entrepreneurs. When devising blue prints and creating ideas for the possibility of installing a gym and showering facility in the college, one option we could avail of is the Social Innovation Fund. The Social Enterprise Development Fund is a €3.2 million Fund which will be delivered over four years: 2018 – 2022. The fund was created by Social Innovation Fund Ireland (SIFI) in partnership with Local Authorities Ireland and funded by IPB Insurance and the Department of Rural and Community Development. As a group we cannot rule out the possibility of this despite the low likelihood.
