Many species of moths have been located in the village, mostly through regular light-trapping in a garden. Using light traps elsewhere in the parish, especially in the woods, would certainly add more species to this list.

Convolvulus Hawk-moth (Agrius convolvuli) - very large moth that arrives as a migrant from southern Europe in greatly varying numbers each year. In Shotesham, recorded in 2006 (four times), 2008, 2016 and 2020.
Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila elpenor) - very common large moth of striking appearance. Caterpillars feed on willowherbs and have been found a few times around the village. Seems to be getting more numerous; highest nightly count to date at light was 15.

The most likely hawk-moth to be seen by most people as it feeds by day and is of striking appearance, looking like a small hummingbird at flowers such as Buddleia.
