Our personal health and safety are closely connected to the kind of community we live in. Crime rates, noise levels, drug and alcohol use, and other factors all impact our quality of life. There are plenty of benefits that come from living in urban areas, but there are also challenges. If we don’t take these challenges into account, and develop effective strategies for managing them, our neighborhoods will suffer.
To build safe and healthy communities we need community involvement. City officials need to listen to stakeholders when making decisions about liquor permits, live entertainment (especially outdoors), and other issues related to commercial development. Excessive alcohol density, nocturnal noise from bars/nightclubs, and poorly regulated tourism can reduce our quality of life, causing unacceptable impacts to our health and safety.
If you're concerned about these issues, please explore the information available on this web site. You can also find updates on the SHLA Facebook page.
