Importer Exporter Code (IEC) (Professional Fees Rs. 1499 including Govt Fees)
No export or import shall be made by any person without an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) number unless specifically exempted.
IEC is compulsory for imports. However, certain categories of importers are exempted from obtaining IEC.
Application for obtaining IEC Number in made online at DGFT website in the prescribed form.
The prescribed documents in case of proprietorship firm are
1. Digital photograph,
2. PAN Card,
3. Copy of Passport (first & last page)/ Voter’s I-Card/ Driving Licence/ UID (Aadhar Card),
4. Address Proof (Sale deed in case business premise is self owned; or Rental/ lease Agreement, in case office is rented/ leased; or latest electricity/ telephone bill and
5. Bank Certificate as per ANF 2A(I)/ Cancelled Cheque bearing pre-printed name of applicant and a/c no.
Digital signatures is recommended for Application
IEC code has lifetime validity. Importers are not allowed to proceed without this code and exporters can’t take benefit of exports from DGFT, customs, Export Promotion Council, if they don’t have this code.
The IE Code must be quoted by importers while clearing customs. Also, banks require the importers IE Code while sending money abroad.
For exporters, IE Code must be quoted while sending shipments. and banks require the exporters IE Code while receiving money from abroad.
