Shipps Corner Pet Spa & Resort's Dock Diving Pool located at
1515 Drakesmile Rd, Virginia Beach, VA, 23453
North America Diving Dogs (NADD) is the premiere dock diving organization in the US and Canada and NADD titles are a part of the AKC and CKC's title recognition programs.
Dock diving is the fastest growing canine sport in the last 5 years that consists of running on an official competition and dock jumping into an official competition pool.
Distance Jump: how far you dog can jump across the pool; this is measured from the end of the dock to where the tail enters the water.
Hydro Dash: how fast your dog can swim to a bumper suspended 37 feet down the pool, retrieve the bumper in mouth, and return it to the dock.
Air Retrieve: how far out can your dog jump while retrieving a toy suspended 4 feet above water
Be at least six months old
Love water and know how to swim
Have a natural instinct to retrieve and jump
Females in season are not allowed to compete
Open class: For dogs 16 inches and taller at the withers
Lap class: For dogs under 16 inches at the withers
Veterans division: For dogs that turn 8 during the competition season and older. This distinction is only used during qualifiers, regionals, and at Nationals.
Dogs can earn distance division titles by completing five qualifying jumps, called splashes, within a division. Additionally, can also earn advanced titles by completing an additional 25 qualifying jumps. Divisions are color coded on the distance banners poolside. Air Retrieve and Hydro Dash division titles are 5, 15, and 35 in the same division, and excellent titles with 25 additional jumps for a total of 55 jumps. Dogs can work towards multiple division titles throughout their dock diving career.
Shipps Corner provides on-site group or private orientations for those interested in entering their dogs in dock diving competitions or those just looking for an activity for their energetic dog. Up to date vaccination records and a negative fecal test dated within the previous 365 days are required and must be updated prior to orientations and lessons; titers are accepted for rabies.
Group orientation is offered once every month and a private orientation with the trainer can be scheduled. Orientation is set for one hour periods.
Once a client has completed an orientation, they are able to rent the dock by themselves. We offer by the hour dock rentals. Clients must be experienced with the dock or have completed an orientation with the trainer in order to book a rental.
Visiting competitors with a NADD number that have competed previously can rent the dock after an abbreviated orientation; existing competitors from other organizations must show proof of competing and must go through the abbreviated orientation as well. Abbreviated orientation cost is $15.
