Disaster Management and Response Report
Shiomidai is a sub-locality located on top of the hills in Isogo Ward of Yokohama City, Japan.
The area was developed during the 1960s, when Japan saw a historic economic boom. Shiomidai was mainly developed to alleviate the severe housing crisis caused by the rapid development of the Keihin Industrial Belt along Negishi Bay. Therefore, the sub-locality mainly consists of housing complexes to accommodate the people who worked at the factories of Toshiba, Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI), Tokyo Gas, Tokyo Electric Power Company, and other energy and manufacturing companies along the Keihin Industrial Belt.
