I always was a water person, playing and swimming in the sea for hours, walking along the waterline. It is my element, I feel a deep connection to it, like a fish in the ocean, or maybe a whale.
My name is Muriel which I recently discovered derives from the Irish Gaelic name Muirgheal, translating to βbright seaβ, βsparkling seaβ or shining seaβ. When it came to find a name for my Yoga activities, it was easy to find.
I practiced yoga as a child, and rediscovered yoga while I was pregnant, 19 years ago. Yoga has benefited me so much that I wanted to share it with people, hence becoming a Yoga teacher for kids as of 5 years ago, and adults in the last 4 years (IYTA Diploma of teaching Yoga - 460 hours and KIDSYOGA Training academy , Kids Yoga teacher training Levels 1 & 2- 50 hours).
I have experienced different styles of Yoga (Hatha, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Prenatal, Postnatal, Yoga Mums and Bubs), my heart resonates most with Hatha Yoga, a gentle practice for a strong and flexible body, a clear and calm mind, a joyful spirit. This is the style I am trained in and I teach philosophy, postures, breathwork and meditation.
My teaching is based on Ahimsa, βKindness towards all living beings, including ourselvesβ, practicing this philosophy on and off th mat. I believe that when one is teaching, two are learning and I love the connection with people. Yoga is the Union of the Mind, Body and Spirit. It is both a state and a practice.
I believe Yoga is for everybody and every body. My teacher used to say, βIf you can breath, you can do Yogaβ.
I offer classes (small groups, one-on one) in different settings: en plein air (outside if the weather is good for it), privately, and now for children in after school care.
Yoga for a cause is a small class by the Bay in Blues Point Reserve, free of charge. Instead, you can donate for a charity dear to my Heart through my donation box, if you wish and are able to.
