SHINE Homeschool 4H Info
*4H enrollment forms can be filled out ahead online or the day of the first meeting (September 2025).
*The very first 4H Club meeting officers (president, vice president and secretary) will be elected so students who plan to run will need to plan to give a 1-2 min speech to share about why they want the position (*NOT for Cloverbuds).
*Cloverbuds (5-8yrs) will meet the same day/time as the regular 4H Club (9 to 18yrs).
*Extension agents from DeKalb County will lead each meeting. New business and old business are discussed as well as the next month's contests. Info is handed out to take home. Usually, they will have a fun group project to do with the children. Meeting normally lasts an hour.
*During the meeting parent volunteers will be judging the months contests in a separate area. You are not allowed to judge in the same group that your child is in. Ribbons and certificates are handed out at the end of the meeting.
*Club meetings have various monthly contests including: Photography, Farm City contest, Extreme Birdhouse, Woodworking, Baked Foods, Dairy Poster contest, Blocks Rock, Story Telling Contest and Public Speaking to name a few.
*They have several online contests as well: Pumpkin Carving contest, Farm City Photo contest, Peanut Essay, Watermelon Growing etc.
*Most homeschool participants have this as the main club and then also participate in special interest contests and clubs when they are offered: Wildlife Club, Rabbit and Chick Chain Projects, Pig Squeal, Shotgun Club, Archery etc.
*April is the county round ups where all winners in the county get together to present their projects and be judged. It is always a fun day. Also, you can enter several different projects in this event such as $15 challenge, Poultry Q, STEM, Lawn Tractor Driving, Animal Science, Container Gardening etc.
*May-winners from county go to regionals and that is always at Northeast College and the Cattleman's Association usually provides lunch to all participants. It is again another fun day with cake walk, fun STEM games and projects to do to kill time until judging begins after lunch.
*June is the 4H Summer Camp.
*July-they host in Auburn a 4-H State Competitive Events Day for all regional winners 13 yrs and up.
