I am Shihan Weng, a PhD candidate in Statistics at the School of Economics and Management, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), where I expect to receive my PhD in 2030.

My research interests span econometric theory and development economics. On the theoretical side, my work focuses on extreme value theory (EVT) and nonlinear causal inference. I aim to develop reliable methods for studying distributional and tail causal effects by combining tools from EVT with modern causal inference frameworks. On the applied side, I am working on the trends, causes, and consequences of inequality in developing economies, with a particular interest in gender economics. My current research examines why gender gaps persist and how they are unintentionally shaped by seemingly gender-neutral shocks.
