The Points System is a way of tracking how much each member of Student Council participates in the club as represented by points. So, if someone who participates a lot and has an active role in many areas of Student Council, they will have a higher point total than someone who does not. This system was drafted by a few members of Student Council during the 2016 - 2017 school year and was put into effect on a trial basis in the 2017 - 2018 school year to see how well the system worked. After the 2017 - 2018 school year, the Student Council assessed the Points System, worked out any flaws, and has fully installed it for the 2018 - 2019 school year.
Each quarter, Student Council members must be able to earn at least 50% of the possible points for that quarter to stay within good standing in the Council. Failure to reach this point total will result in the member being placed on 'Probation' for one quarter. During this probationary time, the member must meet the point benchmark following the end of this time to stay on Student Council. Failure to meet the point benchmark will result in their dismissal from the Council or a different consequence as determined by the Student Council Advisor and Officers. If the student does get dismissed from Student Council, they will not be allowed to run for a Student Council position for the following year.
Toward the end of each year before the Student Council and Class Officer elections, the member from each grade with the highest point total will be exempt from having to run for Student Council for the following year. Due to their constant devotion and dedication to the Council, they will be guaranteed one of eight spots for their grade's Student Council representatives for the following school year.
Points can be earned in a variety of ways. One of the major ways to earn points is to join and actively participate in one of the many sub-committees that are formed each quarter. This is the main way to earn points in Student Council, so it is imperative (and required, according to the Student Council Constitution) to join a few during the course of the year to satisfy the quarterly point total requirements. Additionally, attending weekend meetings is another way to earn points. Each time a member attends a meeting, 15 points is added toward their point total. There are many other ways to earn points, many of which are outlined on the 'Points System Requirements' document at the bottom of this page.
At the conclusion of each quarter, point update sheets will be distributed to all Student Council members. These sheets will summarize all the points each member earned and for what reasons. Additionally, they will be told whether or not they have met the point benchmark for that quarter.
