Students choosing to run for a Student Council (or a Class Officer) position will be able to pick up an election ballot form in Ms. Foley's room after an announcement is posted on the TV message board.
For current Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors, this usually takes place toward the end of May after the Seniors leave.
Freshmen will be able to pick up nomination papers during the first few weeks of school in September.
Each May, the current Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior classes attend class elections in the Auditorium.
Freshmen elections occur each September, typically within the first three weeks of the school year.
During the election period, all students choosing to run for a Student Council position will be asked to sit on the stage and will be required to answer a question regarding the school or what they will do as Student Council member.
Candidates for Class Officer positions will go through a more rigorous process, which includes teacher interviews and a panel in front of their grade.
The voting period will occur later that same day during both lunches in room 313. Students will vote for who they believe is best suited to represent their grade on Student Council, picking the best seven candidates*.
Elections for Class Officers will also take place during this time. Students will select the best four candidates for Class Officers. Students will NOT, however, pick which position they would like each candidate to have.
*Starting with the 2017 - 2018 school year, the Student Council member with the highest total number of points in the current Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior classes will be exempt from running for a position on Student Council as they will receive an automatic bid. Students will then only select seven candidates during the voting period.
If a student who has not previously been on Student Council gets elected, they will switch their Advisory group to Student Council and will begin attending to Ms. Foley's room 515 on the following Advisory Day.
Students who were previously on Student Council that were not re-elected will be switched to a different Advisory group and will start attending their new Advisory group during the next Advisory Day.
