WHAT IS A COOPERATIVE COMMUNITY?
Unlike condominiums, where buyers own their individual living space or unit, SGA buyers own a Certificate of Beneficial Interest and hold a proprietary lease that entitles them to occupy their specific apartment. Our property is held in and governed by a land trust created in 1947.
HOW ARE THE SHERMAN GARDEN APARTMENTS GOVERNED?
SGA is governed by a 5-member Board of Trustees comprised of all resident owners. They are elected for 3-year terms and may serve for two consecutive terms.
The community also has an Association that forms committees, plans community events, and assists residents in day-to-day activities.
HOW ARE THE SHERMAN GARDEN APARTMENTS MANAGED?
Sherman Garden Apartments are professionally managed by NS Management located in Skokie, IL.
CAN I RENT AN APARTMENT?
The short answer is “no.” SGA is 100% owner-occupied.
It costs less to own at Sherman Garden Apartments than it costs to buy a comparable condo or rent a comparable apartment in Evanston or Chicago.
Assessments cover all apartment costs except your internet, cable, and phone.
