Conclusion

Sherlock Holmes was a widely beloved character in the Victorian era and he is still widely beloved today. There are numerous TV shows and movie adaptations of Sherlock Holmes. Many adaptations stick to the root of Holmes by making him an extraordinarily smart and observant detective. However, the notable differences are giving Holmes a love interest, which he never had in Doyle's stories because Holmes is unaffectionate, unsympathetic, and somewhat disconnected with people. Or the adaptations will take a character trait of Holmes even further by making him a sociopath or a drug addict who just got out of rehab. Clearly he is still a very prominent and loved fictional character today because a few Holmes TV adaptations that were mentioned had multiple seasons and some movies had sequels or have sequels being written. Sherlock Holmes is a timeless character that is sure to continue to stand the test of time.
