Gifting Paperbacks to Trios

During chemotherapy I was just trying to make it to the next treatment
Five years later, I walked back into that same waiting room carrying my own book —
a book born from those days
Thank you Trios Hospital for being there … for me, and so many others
The ability to ‘gift’ back to the hospital that was besides me
during my summer with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma … 2021 …
Today ... also is a Wednesday … and if we go back five years —
Today I would be in the middle of my Fourth Round of Chemotherapy
Five years ago …. Ooh my … Imagine !
Let me share some positive photos from TODAY …
and this glorious chance I had to ‘gift back’ …
In the black bag are two of my paperback books, bookmarks,
and flyers for the Trios Chaplaincy
and a tote full of prayer shawls …
for sometimes you need more than words,
but a soft hug, and hoping these will offer that support, too
In the box are a dozen paperback books for Trios to distribute as they see
But the two on top, wrapped with a ribbon, are for the Trios Food Services,
with the poems about ‘them’ are marked with bookmarks…
For they, truly added to the joy of my summer …
~ When Cancer Called My Name ~
The tote with two paperback books and full of prayer shawls for when words are not enough, and you need a warm hug, too
Before leaving home — The tote full of ‘hugs’, the prayer shawls, for when words are not enough. The box of books for Trios to distribute — with the ones for Food Services on top
My husband, who was standing besides the Trios professional photographer captured this image Thank you again, Trios Hospital for your great care, and for this chance I have to gift back.
The paperback books —
and the envelope with bookmarks, flyers, and information sheets
Thank you for the most wonderful opportunity yesterday at Trios.
Walking once again through the Oncology Department brought back so many memories. Charles and I waited in those very waiting rooms during my cancer journey. It was there, in that wing of the hospital, that the kernels of so many of my poems were first formed.
It fills my heart with joy to be able to return, in some small way, the kindness and exceptional care I received.
By gifting Trios my books, along with the prayer shawls, I hope to offer comfort—for those moments when words are not enough and when a warm hug is needed as well.
Thank you, too, for introducing me to everyone. It was such a pleasure to meet so many caring people. I am also looking forward to the fall with the opportunity to sit down with you for the interview.
