Shere Thu Thuy is a celebrated recording artist, vocalist, and actress, renowned for her significant contributions to both television and film. Her career, which flourished from the 1970s to the 1990s, firmly established her as a leading figure in the Vietnamese music scene. Over her prolific career, she has released a total of 13 albums, garnering acclaim for her unique blend of musical styles. During the height of her music career in the 1980s, Shere founded two record companies, J&T and T&T, which played a pivotal role in producing her first five vinyl albums. These albums showcased her innovative approach, featuring original compositions influenced by New Wave and Italo disco, a genre that captivated audiences with its upbeat rhythms and synth-driven melodies. Shere's impact extended beyond the studio and live performances, as her songs found a prominent place on FM radio stations across Southern California. Additionally, her vibrant music videos received substantial airplay on MTV, enabling her to connect with a broader audience in the American music market. She was one of the pioneering musicians from her community to successfully bridge cultural gaps. Since returning to the stage in 2010, Shere has remained dedicated to her craft, continually producing original music that reflects her cultural heritage. In her own words, “I will continue to represent the Vietnamese to the Americans with my new-wave original music until the day I die. I am proud to be an American because they helped my country during the war and opened their doors to us. I am also proud to be Vietnamese, and I love my culture.” This earnest commitment to her roots and to promoting cultural exchange through music underscores her lasting legacy in the industry.
