The Forbes 2021 article “Why We Should Take The Time To Question Whether We’re Living In An Echo Chamber” by Enrique Dans.
Enrique discusses how social media created the echo chamber that has effects on the news and information we are exposed to daily from different sources. However, some persons in society chooses the channels in which information is delivered to them which determines which group of society, they may fall in. Society today depends heavily on news and other information from the internet or selected social media sites. It can be difficult for one to determine which platform or network to follow. Some recommendations are to create a group of sources to receive information. This will narrow down your news feed based on the algorithms from your searches or social media activities.
Facebook is a good example of how social networks can provide you with more information you like or comment on. By providing you with more information on topics you are interested in tends to make the individual subjected to one particular point of view or strips the persons from receiving any new feeds that can spark new interest or provide a different opinion.
Social networks tend to provide its host with information their contacts are interested in which leads to less topics and views to share among friends. This can lead to biasness and adding to your own beliefs.
As part of society, we have a duty to be informed about the risk in choosing who we talk too and where we received our information so we can understand the concept of the echo chamber and what effects it could have on members of society.
