I am philosophy faculty in the Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at Nazarbayev University. My research interests are in philosophy of science, animal minds, language, environment and ethics.
Postdoctoral Research: I did philosophical research on symbolic communication in animals with Kristin Andrews at York University (Toronto) and on gene editing in agricultural animals with Stefan Linquist at University of Guelph. I also spent a year running a scientific study on animal cognition with cockatoos at Alice Auersperg's Goffin lab at the Messerli Research Institute.
Education: I did my PhD in Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania under the supervision of Michael Weisberg. My MA is also from UPenn & my BA is from the University of Toronto.
I am an avid birder who has submitted over 4000 reports to eBird, a global database of bird observations used for conservation and research. I've also done work on environmental justice in my hometown of Philadelphia to raise awareness of irresponsible development, corruption, and the community's right to self-determination in public land use.
