Tuesday 6th February was the finals night for the 8 players that qualified from the group stages of the Jock Connors Singles League 2018 at the Neptune Snooker Club.
One of the first quarter finals games was Luke Carey vs Jake Lloyd. Jake took a 2-0 lead but couldn't keep it - Luke got back to 2-2 and then ran out the 5-2 winner.
The next match was Jamie O’Donnell vs Steve Ritchie. Jamie took an early 3-1 lead but Steve battled on and got it back to 3-3 but Jamie ended up winning 5-3 after Steve missed a black to make it 4-4.
In the other half of the draw it was a family battle with Tony Gray Snr vs Tony Gray Jnr. Tony Jnr took a 2-0 lead then missed a ball to make it 3-0 which Tony Snr pounced on and won the next 5 frames to make it 5-2.
The match of the quarter finals was Charlie Minta vs Troy Millward. The two players couldn’t be separated amd the match went to 4-4 but it was Millward who clinically took the last frame and won 5-4.
The semi final matches still best of 9 started with Luke Carey vs Jamie O’Donnell. Jamie took a early 4-0 lead but Luke started to fight back winning the next 2 frames but it wasn’t enough and Jamie won the match 5-2.
The other semi final match was between Sheppey #1 and #2, Tony Gray Snr and Troy Millward. Troy took a small 2-1 lead early on after a couple of safety battles but Tony pulled off some good clearances winning the next 4 frames and coming out a 5-2 winner.
The final saw Jamie O’Donnell vs Tony Gray Snr. From the start the two players couldn’t be separated and the match went to 4-4. After a couple of safety shots Tony gave Jamie 2 visits late in the frame. Jamie bounced his last yellow out aiming for it to go in the middle pocket but it ended up with some luck in the bottom pocket leaving him an easy black which he potted and ended up winning the match 5-4.
