In order for students to have a better understanding of certain events throughout history, it's imperative they have a strong foundation of basic principles. Culture is one of those principles. In our "What Is Culture?" lesson, students participated in collaborative learning stations and completed a culture project.

To start off our "What Is Culture?" lesson, we watched the Flocabulary video about culture. Then, students rotated around the room in groups to analyze objects or printouts which represented different aspects of culture. These activities allowed students to activate background knowledge and then make connections between daily practices/objects and culture.
Students then went on to complete a project about their culture. They could include food, music, religion, clothing, sports, language, etc. They had a great time learning about culture and teaching their classmates about their culture.
