Teaching anything related to government can be tricky, but gummy bears make everything better! This sweet hands-on activity really allowed my students to visualize the differences between the major forms of government. I used this wonderful free resource from GeorgiaStudiesWithMrsR on teacherspayteachers linked below.

To begin our lesson, we went through my slides posted below and took notes on the different forms of government. Students were able to refer back to these notes throughout the lesson. Then, each group of 3-4 students received a plate and gummy bears. Each student also got a copy of the activity sheet.
Through random selection, groups were assigned a form of government. Students then had to work together to create a scene using their plate and gummy bears to represent their type of government. Some groups decided to draw on their plates to enhance their scenes.
When time was up, each group presented their scene and their classmates had to guess what form of government they had. Afterwards, students filled out their activity sheet and drew their own representations of each form of government. (They also got to eat their gummy bears!)
This was a wonderful activity and really helped my students to visualize the differences between the different types of governments.
