Woodblock Printing
Woodblock Printing
Woodblock Printing is one of the great inventions from Ancient China that we learn about. We discuss how this invention still impacts us today and how the process of printing evolved over time from woodblock stamps to the printing press to modern printers.
I got the idea for this activity from @mrs_spatharos on Instagram. Students translate their names into Chinese using Google Translate. Then they trace the image and reverse it on notebook paper. Students carve their names into their Styrofoam plate and use washable black paint as ink. They practice with their new "woodblock stamps" on scrap paper before putting a final stamp on their reflection paper.Â
