Entry #3
This part is loaded. I was intrigued by what happened between Charlotte Pascal and Irene from the get go, but finally I got some context. Of course, the whole story has not been told yet, as Irene has not revealed her side of the story yet. However, what I hope happens next is Irene telling Scottie her side of the story, because Charlotte’s narrative sounds familiarly fake.
First, the classroom scene. I find it now obvious what Charlotte was trying to do. She was determined to ‘out’ Irene’s ‘lie’---maybe out of spite, maybe out of jealousy. As the teacher read the note, I started to formulate a theory of what Charlotte is trying to sell. I think that, in her version of the facts, Irene tried to force herself on to her, as Charlotte put it “predatory”. She is trying to get everyone against Irene. What for? I am not quite sure. If my theory is correct, she is doing so in order to kill two birds with one stone, by eliminating a rival for Athlete of the Year and fulfilling her jealous desires.
Second, the most important part: the party at Charlotte’s. I was expecting something bad to happen at Charlotte’s, but I did not expect her to bring up an old clip. What she did was completely out of place, I hated it, and partially because I understand Irene’s context. Later, Honey-Belle refers to ‘internalized homophobia’ as something Irene had to get over. The clip from one year ago clearly evidences that internalized homophobia, and I find it distasteful of Charlotte to bring something like that up. I really feel sorry for Irene, as I have been in her place before. It is really hard to come to terms with one’s sexuality (or gender) when these are not the default straight and cis. However, this foul act strengthens my theory that Charlotte and Irene are, if not queerplatonic exes, real, romantic exes. As Irene puts it, her heart feels betrayed. They used to be “best friends”, sure, of course it is going to be a betrayal---but I am pretty sure it hints to more.
“Charlotte Pascal is trash,”
In Scottie’s words, Irene Abraham has not been anything but herself. I believe her---of course, it is easy to do so as she is explicitly mentioned as the love interest of a lesbian story---and I really am looking forward for her side of the story. I am pretty sure it will be far more truthful.
