'Conscious comfort' is a fashion collection that prioritises the human need for physical and emotional comfort through clothing. Creating a sense of security and support for wearers, helping them feel strong and safe in their own skin. As garments are the closest thing to our bodies, they become our second skin, dressing to feel physically safe ultimately impacts confidence and self esteem in a positive way.
The concept of ‘Conscious comfort’ is explored through exaggerated shapes, soft textures and a variety of fabric manipulation techniques. Unconventional silhouettes are created using zero-waste techniques, utilising up-cycled offcuts for stuffing, promoting a conscious approach to fashion. Quilting provides padding and a sense of protection, creating a comfortable barrier between the wearer's body and surroundings.
Based on primary research and conducted through a survey, the colour palette focuses on elements that evoke feelings of happiness and comfort, taking into consideration the individual and garments alone. Reinforcing the importance of being conscious in multiple ways, including awareness of surroundings and the impact of fashion. The meticulous process of applique, which involves the hand-sewing of deadstock offcuts and scraps onto the garment, contributes to the physical sensations experienced while wearing it. This approach of repurposing materials promotes a circular environment where waste and environmental impact is minimised.
'Conscious Comfort' is a powerful reminder that fashion can be both comfortable and conscious. By promoting sustainable and ethical practices, it sets a new standard for responsible fashion design that benefits individuals, society, and the planet.
