Last Saturday Coffee House
Katie Meloan and I thought we'd try again. We'd like to restart the old Last Saturday Coffee House.
Last Saturday Coffee House would happen at the Shawnee Community Center 7:00pm to 10:30 pm. It is a small community performing arts venue. It may be acoustic or amplified. Coffee and other refreshments are served if possible. It begins with a greeter at the door that signs up any performer up on the schedule. A stage area, a light, and a mic (if possible) would be set up. There are tables and chairs here and there. The m/c is Katie, Vince, or whoever, introduces acts, fills in as needed and maintains crowd control. If there is no one special ready then the house band fills in with music. Everyone is polite and is entertained by the performers. Shawnee Civic Association would sponsor.. The Cultural Council of Park County and the Arts Alliance of Park County would be promoted and help support as maybe possible.
This was an early program of the Cultural Council of Park County. It first ran roughly 1996 to 2010. LSCH was an open mic venue for local performers. Anyone who signed up had a spot. There were all kinds of players acoustic, folk rock, country, rock, classical. There was poetry reading, theatrical skits (or were those disputes among the participants), and sometimes dance.
There were times when it was just me and Katie performing to a audience of two including the performers. Then there was a night when a snow blizzard hit and LSCH was packed with a full house and a full card of performers. Can LSCH recapture that community of performers and audience? We'd like to try and find out. LSCH 12 shows a year may lead to 3 large scale variety shows at the high school raising funds for the arts departments.
Katie is a singer and a picker, I play cello and read aloud, Ruthie has a fine voice but she's in North Dakota, Larry plays a fine bass, and there are performers everywhere. I think?
Basically, Jan 18th Saturday at 11am we will meet at the Shawnee Community Center to organize and get ready. Of course, the Shawnee Civic Association or some other non-proft organization must approve LSCH as a program. Let’s see if there is any interest in a casual performing arts venue at the Shawnee Community Center.
