In 2005, sisters Sharon Clemons and Joy Brown opened Sharon Joy Salon in New Haven with a vision that extended far beyond beauty. A graduate of Wilfred Academy in New Haven, Sharon was a veteran stylist of over 30 years and an advanced educational instructor who traveled the world teaching precision haircuts. Her mastery, professionalism, and commitment to excellence helped shape the salon into a respected destination for high-level artistry and care. For over two decades, Sharon Joy Salon has remained a place of excellence, mentorship, and community impact.
Together, Sharon and Joy dedicated countless hours to uplifting teens and justice-involved women, teaching essential grooming skills, professional presentation, and self-care to help them step confidently into new opportunities. Sharon also led annual Christmas give-back initiatives for single mothers and regularly donated her time to serve families in need.
Born in Stamford, Connecticut, Joy Brown has been a licensed cosmetologist for nearly three decades. After studying at Dudley Cosmetology University in North Carolina and working 15 years at La Hair Trends, she co-founded Sharon Joy Salon to continue her passion for serving others through beauty. Specializing in color, cutting, and natural hair, Joy remains committed to excellence and to carrying the salon’s legacy forward following Sharon’s passing in 2020. Guided by faith and purpose, she also founded Sip n Chat, a women’s empowerment ministry focused on life, relationships, finances, and self-love, further extending the salon’s mission of empowerment beyond the chair.
