**Please contact us for updated information regarding math classes. Thank you for your interest!**

Elise is an education researcher with a background in math education. Her education includes a minor from UC Berkeley in math education with courses in project–based curriculum, inquiry-based lesson planning, and classroom interactions. She taught 7th grade math in Berkeley, CA. She runs small group classes students ages 8–18 in math and has been teaching fully virtually since March 2020. Elise brings a deep knowledge of current math education research and stays up-to-date on best practices for teaching, including trainings on teaching virtually.

The math enrichment sessions are drop-in. Once a student signs up for a class , they will get the Zoom and Google Classroom information, and are welcome to join any week(s) of the Winter/Spring term. While the classes will move through themes/topics, each week's lesson will be self-contained. Classes will run from January 10-May 31. Students will be billed monthly based on the number of classes they attend.  Enrichment classes are $45/session, please reach out for sliding scale.

Math Challenges (5th-8th) Tuesdays 1-2PM PST: In this class we'll work on interesting and challenging math problems. Past challenges include designing the ideal popcorn bucket, designing our own games of chance, and figuring out how many combinations of parts are used in Pixar movies to design crowd scenes.

Number Sense (rising 4th-6th graders/ 7th-9th): In this class we'll work to develop number sense through math games, exploration of patterns, and real-world math problems. We will also explore math in nature and art. In the Middle School group we will also work on modeling using equations.

Rotating topics (rising 8th and 9th graders): In this class we will look at problems related to probability/statistics, geometry, and algebra. We'll also complete design challenges using constraints to push our mathematical thinking.

Design Challenges (rising 5th/6th graders ): In this class we'll use household objects and computer aided design to complete design challenges. These will primarily focus on geometry and engineering standards.
