Shannon's academic achievements include a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Specialist in Education in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Director of Gifted and Talented Programs from Arkansas State University. She just completed the Preparing Future Faculty certificate at UMKC and is currently completing her second year in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program.
In addition to her teaching and student roles, Shannon holds key positions in state and national associations for gifted youth. She serves as Advocacy Co-Chair for the LGBTQ+ Network of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and is the Vice President of Finance for the Gifted Association of Missouri (GAM). Shannon has served as a conference proposal reviewer for AERA, NAGC, and the Gifted Association of Missouri. She has also presented multiple times at the annual conferences of NAGC, AERA, and GAM.
In 2022, Shannon was the first author of a chapter of T. Neal's Strategies and Considerations for Educating the Academically Gifted titled "Gifted LGBTQ+ Strategies for Successful School Years." In 2025, she co-authored a chapter in Perspectives in Gifted Education: Rural Realities and Innovative Practices titled "Empowering Rural Gifted Education: Cultivating Local Agency Through Innovative Practice." This publication is forthcoming through the University of Denver.
