As an interdisciplinary teacher-researcher, my work coalesces around the interanimations of language, the body, and the technological. I blend rhetorical analysis, qualitative, and ethnographic research approaches to the study of multilingual and multidialectal populations’ languaging practices and the sociotechnical designs of writing/language assistant technologies these populations employ for their communicative purposes. Specifically, I attend to the neglected yet significant embodied and multisensorial or haptic dimensions of language in the contexts of digital writing, cross-cultural communication, and the use and design of writing/language assistant technologies (e.g., Grammarly, translation tools, natural language processing virtual assistants). With these critical lenses, my research and teaching practice is committed to cultivating and augmenting individuals’ metacognitive and metalinguistic skills for communicative success.
