Teaching Philosophy: As a life-long learner and someone who is passionate about preparing the next generation to be critical thinkers and effective members of society, I have become increasingly devoted to teaching. From my various experiences as an instructor, teaching assistant, tutor, mentor, and outreach coordinator, I learned a lot about effective teaching methods. These experiences have helped me hone my teaching philosophy: To provide students with safe, supportive spaces to grow, make mistakes, and learn to better apply material to real-world questions (e.g., research). As the foundation of this philosophy and how I approach academia in general, I believe that teaching, mentoring, and real-world applicability (e.g., research) are intricately linked. If one of these aspects is missing, then students are less effective at developing their scientist identities or critical thinking skills to translate to their passions and career paths. Through these links, I aim to provide effective and inclusive teaching that provides translational pathways to real world problems, allows students to take command of their learning, incorporates global components, and assesses students based on progress. Through these avenues, I hope students develop professionally and personally and discover what they are passionate about so they can become future leaders in their fields.
