Beginning July 1, 2000, Act 48 of 1999 requires persons holding Pennsylvania professional educator certification to complete continuing education requirements every five years in order to maintain their certificates in active status. Pennsylvania School Law requires that all employees of public schools undergo background checks every five years. For more information on obtaining or renewing these clearances please click HERE or on the PDE Employee Background Checks image.
The following three background checks are required to be current within five years:
- Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance
- Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check
- Federal Criminal History Record Information (SERVICE CODE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES)
