My Lost Will

Phool. Her mother got married at the age of fourteen; this was her first marriage. As a girl from a suburb, she couldn’t study much. A household infested with scarcity and poverty encouraged the parents to marry off their daughter. However, the marriage broke off within four months. Due to her impotent husband, the girl decided to leave that marriage. She came back to her home. Her parents tried to marry her off again. This time, they chose a dumb boy for her. She continued to live her new married life, although it was hardly a happy one.

After some time, Phool was born. Phool’s life took a whole different turn when her mother was abandoned by the in-laws right after she was born. They claimed Phool could not be their heir, and she was born to her mother’s previous marriage. Little Phool was brought to her mother’s home after that. There's a sign of scarcity in every corner of the house. How will they bring up Phool, whereas her mother herself is an underage girl?

Her health started to deteriorate due to worry. Repeatedly, she tried to go back to her husband's house, with no sign of acceptance. Concerning over Phool’s future, her mother decided to take the help of law. Her tired body can no longer find cool edges. It is said from the court that DNA test should be done. Even though she agreed, Phool’s father denied. Eventually she took the help of the area’s elders, so her husband provided something for the child's sake at least. This marriage too broke off, and she kept raising Phool all by herself.

She got married again for the third time and endured it all in silence. Thinking that a girl is really a burden in a world of scarcity, the girl moves from her village to a faraway city. Husband doesn’t allow her much to visit home. No one accepts Phool either. Little Phool passes her days all by herself like this. There’s no shadow over her. Phool struggles to recognize her mother as she grows up. Her maternal grandparents looked after her all this time. The four-year-old Phool that grows one step at a time is still unaware of the darkness she resides in. All desire is lost. All that remains is that one day Phool will surely get to know her father.
