Back in 2017, while teaching at Christian Family School in Korogocho, I noticed many children with hidden potential who couldn’t continue their studies due to financial constraints. Having faced similar struggles myself, unable to continue university because of limited resources, I felt their pain deeply.
Through my work at Christian Family School, I encountered numerous children whose talents were limited only by lack of support. I began connecting these children with generous individuals and organizations, many of whom fully sponsored their secondary school education. Today, many of these learners have graduated, while others are still receiving full scholarships to continue their studies.
Even the primary school children, whose families could not afford school fees or basic meals, were impacted. Sometimes, my colleagues and I would contribute small amounts to provide them breakfast so they could focus in class.
Seeing this ongoing need, I realized it was essential to create a sustainable way to support these children and their families. That is how Shaber Slums Dream Team came to be, a platform dedicated to supporting vulnerable and destitute children and families in informal settlements.
